ACC and Injury Rehabilitation

ACC

We are registered contractors to the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) as a treatment service provider. This registration is provided by the New Zealand Acupuncture Standards Authority.

Once your injury has been approved by ACC then you are able to receive ACC subsidised Acupuncture or Tuina (massage) by a registered provider. It is not necessary to receive a referral for acupuncture from your doctor, physiotherapist or health provider as the vast majority of injuries have a set number of acupuncture treatments allocated to them.

Acupuncture is particularly effective in treating injuries in their acute (early) stage, so the sooner you get treated, the better. It can also be used to treat chronic (long term) injuries with ACC providing cover for one year from the date of injury.

Under ACC you are allocated a certain number of acupuncture treatments per injury and a certain number of other modalities such as Osteopathy, Physiotherapy and Chiropractic care. Tackling an injury from a number of treatment protocols doesn’t affect your entitlement of the other. It just encourages a speedier recovery. Do let your health providers know you are receiving other treatment in conjunction with theirs.

ACC provides a contribution to your treatment and injury recovery so we can offer treatment at a discounted rate. See Our Fees for more information.

Injury rehabilitation

If you have suffered injury through sports, work or auto accidents or are recovering from surgery, Acupuncture can greatly assist with your recovery.

Acupuncture works by reducing inflammation (swelling) and regulating the body’s Histamine response. It relieves pain by releasing endorphins and adenosine and speeds up the healing process by improving immunity and stem cell production.

Injury and post-operative recovery is both physical and psychological. Using various treatments we are able to relieve and relax our clients and reduce frustrations and any pre- and post-operative anxiety. Post surgical pain syndromes and addictions to prescribed medications are also a contributing factor in physicians making referrals to acupuncture.

Acupuncture’s common functions in Injury recovery are:

  • Pain management

  • Decrease inflammation

  • Reduce pre-operative anxiety

  • Reduce swelling

  • Reduce need for medication

  • Improve scar tissue

  • Decrease healing time

  • Increase chance of full recovery
